UNIVERSITY OF LIBERIA

University of Liberia College of Health Sciences (ULCHS) is the flagship public higher education institution (HEI) responsible for training Liberia’s clinicians, researchers, health policymakers, and innovators. Led by Dr. Bernice Dahn, who spearheaded work to establish a resilient health system and fit-for-purpose health workforce during her tenures as Deputy Minister (2006-2015) and Minister of Health of Liberia (2015-2018), ULCHS is poised to become a globally recognized leader in research utilization, meaningfully connecting

academics with policymaking, innovation, and clinical practice. ULCHS is home to Liberia’s sole medical school and to schools of pharmacy, public health, nursing and midwifery. ULCHS has conducted curricular reforms and created teaching and learning programs including faculty development trainings in teaching skills. ULCHS will:

  • Provide overall strategic vision for project planning based on local priorities and needs;

  • House, administer, and manage CTLI; employ faculty and staff to implement activities;

  • harness in-country expertise to assist in the design and implementation of all research utilization activities and educational programs;

  • Establish in-house administrative systems for long-term sustainability of financial services and grant application and management activities (i.e., pre- and post-award capacity);

  • Ensure appropriate maintenance of lines of communication and advocate with in-country stakeholders to minimize barriers to implementing activities; and

  • Leverage synergies with UL’s University-wide Teaching and Learning Center, which focuses on pedagogy and technology skills for faculty.
