Monrovia, Liberia – The College of Health Sciences at the University of Liberia received official notice on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, regarding the termination of its USAID Cooperative Agreement funding for the BRIDGE-U: Applying Research for a Healthy Liberia project, due to a shift in U.S. policy. Launched in June 2021, the BRIDGE-U project established and funded the College’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI), which has played a critical role in advancing health education and research.

Launched in June 2021, the BRIDGE-U project established and funded the College’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI), which has played a critical role in advancing health education and research.

Through this initiative, the Center implemented several key programs, including Camp xSEL, which supports student pipeline development, and faculty development programs that provide certification in mentorship, pedagogy, and the Residents as Teachers and Leaders initiative. The project also introduced Liberia’s first high-fidelity clinical simulation lab–(ELAB) to enhance clinical training, developed a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework to strengthen competencies among health professionals, and expanded research utilization to build stronger research capacity across the College. Additionally, the initiative contributed to strengthening administrative systems by establishing the Office of Fiduciary Services, the Office of Sponsored Research, Data Systems, and External Engagement. The College expressed its profound gratitude to USAID and the U.S. government for their invaluable support in strengthening its institutional capacity and funding these critical initiatives over the past three years.

Despite the conclusion of USAID’s financial commitment, the College remains dedicated to continuing its efforts to strengthen Liberia’s health system. It will actively pursue new partnerships to sustain and expand its initiatives, ensuring continued impact on healthcare education, research, and institutional development through CTLI.
